Ikegami Triple Scalable IP network products utilize wavelet based JPEG2000 technology due to its high image quality, resistance to transmission interruptions, and its scalability.

Triple Scalable IP Network Solution

Streams of JPEG2000 video can be simultaneously distributed to display monitors of different resolution (size), frame rate (frequency) and quality. Ikegami Triple Scalable IP network products can provide 105 variations to suit your monitoring needs.

About JPEG2000

  • Better compression performance than JPEG or Motion-JPEG.
  • Transmit different resolution, image quality and frame rate from single coding data; Different picture size, selectable in accordance with image devices and transmission frequency bandwidth of the network.
  • Metadata (copyright, coding data etc.) attachment available.
  • Stable JPEG2000 transmission bit rate (unaffected by image condition)
  • Image quality does not deteriorate
  • Less deterioration by transmission error and noise.

MPEG2/4? or JPEG2000?
When would MPEG2/4 be better than JPEG2000?

  • The application is already using an MPEG system
    Example - a broadcast or streaming application, with all of the clients using the same format (frame rate, output bit rate, etc.)
  • Systems in which bandwidth and storage space are extremely limited.
  • Scalability or flexibility in bandwidth, resolution, quality, or frame rate is NOT important.
  • Latency (delay when remotely operating a camera or changing channels) is NOT important.
  • High quality images are NOT required
  • Other issues related to temporal compression :
    Multiplexing between multiple cameras is NOT required
    Still image support is NOT needed

The most important requirement for a Surveillance IP System is scalability.
A particular application may emphasize recording runtime, and image quality for live monitoring. Other applications may instead require image quality for recording but minimal image quality for monitoring. JPEG2000 is able to be scaled to accommodate the entire spectrum of requirements.
